Last Wed. Terry P. arrived with the purpose of testing the whole litter to see which dogs would be most suited for service work! She evaluated the litter using several parameters that would help her measure their "APTNESS" for service tasks. I found all of it fascinating and am pleased to share our results. Five puppies tied with their performance on retrieving and startle like response. They were Yahtzee, Uno, Kerplunk, Twister and Jenga. She wasn't looking for a girl so then narrowed it down simply by the one who sat at her feet! Taboo and Scrabble were very interested in the retrieving aspect but didn't know what to make of "clicker" startle etc. When in doubt about the "startle" they sat down to think it over lol--- CONGRATULATIONS TO YAHTZEE WHO IS HEADED FOR SERVICE WORK!

Spent the weekend celebrating my Dad's 70th birthday with our big family. Lots to enjoy and also lots going on with the poodles. I settled in several exquisite dogs that my dear friend Sue Abeln sent home with me two days ago. She is a great partner/mentor and has blessed me with some gorgeous dogs that carry her internationally known bloodline. I included pictures of two of the girls.... See for yourself- WOW
more info on the dams page....... I have spent the week helping my dear friend @ KitSue Poodles as she has been dealing with personal health issues. After much discussion, she has given me several of her exceptional dogs... Topping the list would UKC CH Kit-Sue's Mister Preston. Preston is a beautiful brown and white tux and has his health testing done. He will be a gorgeous addition to DuBois Standard Poodles! STAY TUNED FOR UPDATES ON OUR DECEMBER LITTER FROM KIT-SUE'S LUNA....
Beautiful sunny day. I want to soak up the moments outside when you don't feel the chill that is well on it's way.
We had a busy weekend with the kid's activities and my shifts at the emergency vet clinic in the Quad Cities...(that job and the patients are a blog in itself!) I enjoy using my RN BSN in the animal world. It definitely switched it up a bit. Today I am going to outfit Vanna's puppies with the collars and start getting individual pix started. They spend a lot of time in a puppy pile so not a lot of action there. As you can see, they know how to snooze...... Just whimpers here and there when Mom settles in and they snuggle in to eat. These are the peaceful babies days, which I suspect will be changing shortly to a "preschool" atmosphere. Sweet little pile :) Saturdays are great for taking time for the "frosting" in life. Started early this a.m. with all the dogs out in the sunshine. Watching them race around the back hill was entertaining and relaxing as I sipped some coffee to lessen the "chill." Vanna is mesmerized with the large knuckle bones that can be found way out in the backyard. I tease my friend Sue Abeln, KitSue Poodles, that "life is good in Illinois...bones rain from the sky." (Sue has blessed me with some awesome dogs and I couldn't have chose a better partner) My local butcher shop is awesome and every so often sends a box home with me. Vanna is funny- I watched her start a small stash of bones behind the pool house. Apparently she thinks the gang will confiscate them if they can find them. She is a smart dog! LOL Vanna has happily accepted our dog family including little Cricket which has tempted SOME to test and see if in fact she is a chew toy.
The babies are fat and happy. Starting to wobble around a little on the dry mat. Eyes opened 3 days ago... now they toddle toward us. I'm loving them can you tell? Home from Sue Abeln's at KitSue's in Oklahoma. I have been running entirely too much lately and I am BEAT. I went out there to escort JC PIONEER'S VANNA @ KITSUE's and her 7 babies home to Illinois! AS you can see, she didn't mind the long ride at all. I am always so happy to help out my friend with sweet poodle babies! Vanna seemed to actually enjoy the trip. She fed and bathed those babies like we weren't even in the car...she was "mothering as usual! She is a sweet girl and I am DELIGHTED to have her here.
Home from the Nationals last night. Arrived tired but REALLY HAPPY that Skylar earned 3 majors and is now a Champion. She made me work way too hard to get her interested in showing off for the judge. Didn't I know that it was a gorgeous day OUTSIDE and that we had packed her a ball?? She did so well with all of the crowds/dogs. What a great tempermant. My sister Kari and I stayed with good friends in St. Louis. It was a houseful of fun with friends from England, Oklahoma, Missouri and Illinois! With A house full of 8 standard poodles would you believe that it was absolutely quiet at bedtime?? I do believe we were all beat at the end of each of those 3 days. I am sure that Skylar is thrilled with Mission Accomplished and no more sitting at ringside for now. My friend Su Eld-Weaver and I wait at ringside. Our hostess Linda Smith (Crossbrook Poodles), Sue Abeln (KitSue Poodles) Linda Boehm, Ally (Sue A.'s granddaughter) and Sue Eld Weaver.... & Kari and Penny down below.... I couldn't have better friends.
